Often, you want to do both. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the fund industry, certainly, informing and persuading\nthe intended audience is the aim of almost every piece of writing that is\nproduced. It\u2019s good to remember this when you sit down to write. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote style=\"text-align:center\" class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong> &#8220;The purpose of writing is to inform and persuade your audience&#8221; <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>If you remind yourself that the purpose of writing is to\ninform and persuade your audience, you can avoid many common writing mistakes.\nThe first and perhaps most lethal of these is to ignore your audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to convince your readers, it\u2019s obvious that you should have some idea who they are. It\u2019s equally obvious that you should think about what interests them and that you should try to avoid confusing them or boring them to death. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote style=\"text-align:center\" class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> <strong>&#8220;A lot of business writing is not suitable for the intended audience; sometimes, it\u2019s not suitable for any  audience&#8221; <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These points are obvious, but writers often don\u2019t address\nthem, particularly in a business context. A lot of business writing is\nconfusing and boring. Often, it\u2019s not suitable for the intended audience; sometimes,\nit\u2019s not suitable for any audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps it is encrusted in arcane jargon. Perhaps it is\nlifeless because all the sentences are structured in the same way. Perhaps it\nfails to engage the reader because it is too impersonal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are all problems that can be fixed.
